Today, I’m one of the last stops on the Love Notions Origami Tunic and Cardigan Tour. Don’t forget to take advantage of the sale – the women’s Origami is $8 and the girl’s version is $6. I sewed up a mommy and me set, with the cowl neck versions for both. Also, be sure to read through to the end. Enter the rafflecopter at the end of this post for a chance to win an awesome prize package that includes a $50 gift certificate to Love Notions, a $25 gift certificate to Simply by Ti and a mystery box of fabric from Sly Fox Fabrics.

About Love Notions’ Origami Tunic & Cardigan

The women’s version of the Origami Tunic and Cardigan features three silhouette options: A cardigan, a tunic with a handkerchief hem, and a tunic with a straight hem. You may also choose from a cowl or banded neck and tank, short, 3/4 length, and full length sleeves. The girl’s version is a handkerchief hem with cowl, turtleneck, and neckband options and tank, short, 3/4 length or full length sleeves. The options available make it a nice pattern for the various seasons, depending on the fabric you choose.

About the Fabric I Used

The pattern is meant to be used with light to medium weight fabrics, including cotton jersey, interlock, ponte, and cotton lycra. I had this gorgeous french terry and cotton lycra I got from one of So Sew English’s bundle deals. When I saw the call for the Origami blog tour, I knew that this fabric would be perfect for a mommy and me duo. The floral French terry fabric, in particular, is so soft and cuddly that I could live in it.

I didn’t want Miss Butterfly to be too matchy-matchy with myself (plus I had just enough of the floral to make one or the other), so I made my tunic out of the floral and hers out of the gray. I then made the cowl on mine out of the gray fabric and the cowl on Miss Butterfly’s tunic out of the floral fabric. I really love how they turned out.

Sewing the Origami Tunics

The pattern was straight-forward and an easy sew. This would be a great pattern for beginners who want to sew something with straight lines – but who also want a little bit more pizzazz to their project than your average beginners’ project offers.  I managed to make both, sans hems, in an afternoon. The hems I saved for a bit later, when my husband was available to take over tending the small people, but the directions for making the handkerchief hems were easy to follow.

The Photos

It was storm during the beginning of the week here, but we manage to get a break in the thunder and rain to get our photos done. I think my gal is super-happy to be posing with me! Be sure to scroll to the end and visit the other talented ladies on the tour, and enter the giveaway for some fabulous prizes!

    1. Thank you! Yes! I like the coordinating thing without being total twins 😛 Now, I’m going to have to do something for the baby with the little bits of scrap fabric of the floral LOL. Maybe just an applique on a shirt or something.
