I signed up to test for a new-to-me designer, Goober Pea Designs, and boy am I glad that I did. The Little Bow Pea pattern is for sizes 6-12m, 12-18m and 2T-14. This is a revamping of George and Ginger’s BOWLITTLE, if you’re familiar with that pattern.
About the Little Bow Pea
This shirt is so cute. It comes in regular and relaxed styles, has 4 sleeve options: Sleeveless, short sleeve, 3/4 sleeve, and long sleeve, and 2 back options (high V-neck back and low V-neck back) with bow detail. You can also select a wide or thinner bow center. I made the regular fit with the high back and long sleeves for the test. The shirt has a curved hem. It is meant for knit fabrics with at least 50% stretch and good recovery.
About the Fabric I Used
For this pattern test, I used this Space Cats french terry from Mabel Madison, available in the group, Mabel Madison Modern Makers on Facebook. Since we’re heading into fall soon (I hope!), I wanted to use a fabric that would be warmer in the months to come. This fabric is really soft, and even though it’s a fabric suitable for cool weather, it’s still very lightweight and drapes beautifully. It’s stretchy (95% cotton 5% Lycra). The bow was made in a double-brushed polyester from So Sew English Fabrics.
About the Test
The fabric sewed up nicely for the shirt, and I’m happy with the way it turned out. The fit on this shirt is really great, and I love the bow detail. The shirt does involve a small bit of hand-stitching for the bow, but that really makes the shirt pop.
Here are photos of the finished shirt on my 15 month old. This is the size 6-12 months as she measured into that size.
